Reading comprehension tutor for your child from group 7 or group 8.
Reading comprehension is not that easy for most children. The solution of schools is to let the children read as much as possible. That makes sense because by reading a book, children get a better understanding of words.
Unfortunately, there are many children who really don’t like reading a book. And the more you stress reading it, the harder they resist it. If your child really can’t find any nice books in the library, then there is a possible delay in vocabulary and word knowledge. With tutoring in reading comprehension you can reduce this word gap in your child.
The reading comprehension tutoring takes place in my office. Your child reads the text on a wall screen or a large computer. Then they are given about 10 questions to answer about the text.
I teach them how best to read the text. That (and how) they can read the answers to the questions in the text. That way it becomes less gambling. More questions are answered correctly and your child will gain more self-confidence.
Lack of word knowledge. It is precisely the simple words such as: positive or negative. We as parents usually do not realize that children do not know the meaning of such a word. Or that they have just misunderstood such a word in the past year.
Many texts in reading comprehension revolve around understanding certain words without being directly explained in the same text. With the reading comprehension lessons you, as a parent, find out where the problem is. Is your child too restless and just gambling? Are there some words that are not understood? Does your child read too superficially or does he/she not look back in the text for the correct answer?
You will be surprised to see that your child does not mind a reading comprehension lesson. That’s because their eyes are partially opened. That sometimes it only takes a few lessons to break the “loop” of mishandling such a text.
Practicing in the city center of Delft at my office. The nice thing about practicing outside the home is that there is a “click” in the child’s head. Like “ok, now I’m going to learn this and this”. At home, unfortunately, that click is not there and your child sees it more as an annoying interruption from the Ipad or other toys.
